Plays and Musicals
What is a play?
A play is a work of drama, usually consisting mostly of dialogue between characters and intended for theatrical performance rather than just reading. The writer of a play is a playwright.
What is a musical?
Musical theatre is a form of theatrical performance that combines songs, spoken dialogue, acting, and dance. The story and emotional content of a musical - humor, pathos, love, anger - are communicated through words, music, movement and technical aspects of the entertainment as an integrated whole.
Musicals differ from plays in the fact that musicals feature musical numbers while plays do not.
